The Barrel Fairy: Introduction
What follows in the next several posts is an original short story. It is also a compilation of recipes interlaced within the story. All recipes have a common theme. I won't give away any details. I'll let you discover the magic of a certain something (hint: barrel aged) for yourself. The work is fiction. The recipes are very real and if you don't mind me saying, very good.
Disclaimer: No fairies were harmed in the writing of this story. They were all paid their fair due, being fresh milk and honey, left out overnight. A certain other-worldly ruler was also fed well as you will come to read.
Now, without further adue, please sit back. Relax. And enjoy the story.
Oh...before we get to the actual story, here's a quick recipe for a Peppered Ginger Syrup. It goes very well with the drink mentioned on page one of the Barrel Fairy. There's also another ginger syrup listed in an earlier post. That can be found by clicking here Ginger Syrup
Peppered Ginger Syrup
3/4 Cup Freshly Grated Ginger
1 tsp Peppercorns
1 Cup Organic Cane Sugar
1 3/4 cup Water
Grate until you have 3/4 cup.
Place water, ginger and peppercorns in a saucepan and simmer for 25-30 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Stir in sugar until dissolved. According to an avid ginger syrup maker, by adding the sugar after it is off the heat, the syrup won't gel up in a few days.
Strain into a bottle.
Cool and store in the fridge.
and now, our feature presentation......
